Joyful Vines, Delightful Wines: Discover Hands & Friends Winery
Hands & Friends is a charming boutique winery located near Karnobat, Bulgaria. The people behind this winery are joyful, nice and welcoming, and they quickly become your friends. Just like their personalities, their wines exude a unique and delightful character mixed with friendliness in the aftertaste.
When they approached me, they already had a label design – it was light, naive, cheerful, and highly memorable, although it had a certain amateurish charm that I would rather describe as enchanting rather than bothering or disturbing.
My task was to capture the essence of the emotional connection between the people, the label, and the wine and create a new design that would build upon the existing one. The task was challenging because I had to start from something I liked on one hand, and rejected on the other.
Ultimately, I decided to embrace the emotional energy that drove the entire project, as I mentioned earlier. I embarked on a series of naive illustrations that beautifully echoed the theme of the original design. These illustrations played a central role in the new label. At the same time, I took care to preserve the endearing quality of the unrefined elements in the artwork, leading me to the final design. Leaving some white space allowed for the perfect placement of the Hands & Friends logo, resulting in a ready-to-go label.
My goal was to enhance the artisanal appeal throughout the design, and so, I crafted a naive joyful label that neatly accommodated all the necessary information on the back. For a small winery, a single label was a practical and effective choice.
For printing, I confidently entrusted the job to Dagaprint.com. This time, I incorporated fewer effects, deftly executed by their skilled team, to strike the right balance and avoid overwhelming the overall image. The black contours were beautifully brought to life with a transparent relief varnish, while selected accents were adorned with a warm gold foil. I couldn’t resist adding a pleasant radial microtexture to enrich the design.
To complement the artistry, we chose an elegant eco-glass bottle in a captivating burgundy hue, crowned with a silver screw cap.
