A story of two brothers told on a wine label
Villa Grivitsa is a project for a winery based at Grivitsa village nearby Pleven, Bulgaria.
This is one of the wine regions with a lot of potential that is currently rapidly growing with more new wine projects.
Villa Grivitsa is one of them. Started as a family-owned winery I was commissioned to create a logo and wine labels design.
Like in many other projects after I heard the winery story, I decided to create a label based on the new logo work.
The winery is run by two brothers who I depicted in my artwork as two pigeons around a grape surrounded by large serif ‘G’ letter to associate with the Grivitsa word. These wild pigeons are widely spread across the territory of Bulgaria and people here call them ‘grivyak’ – this is where the Grivitsa name came from.
I was aiming at very sleek label design that pays a lot of attention to the winery logo.
After making some experiments, I decided to use different color on G-letter for every wine in the range. Whites are using white background while reds use black and the logo letter varies in color. This was the easiest way to have very clean design and easy color code.
The label is printed on special foil to resist the changing condition when placed in Ice bucket. I also added very smooth soft-touch varnish that made it look even more sophisticated and attractive.
The two pigeons and the grape are stamped with gold hot foil and on top, I decided to use neutral-silver screw cap.
Transparent varnish is used on Villa Grivitsa heading to make it pop out and on an elegant frame surrounding the logo.
Sleek, fresh and modern this design is based on the new winery logo. Memorable and captivating it tells the unique story of the winery. Wines have very modern and elegant test and I was amazed when I tried them for the first time.
